Nursery Tales – Illustrated by Paul Woodroffe

Description

Nursery Tales – Illustrated by Paul Woodroffe

Edited by Amy Steedman, Nursery Tales contains a collection of works including Charles Perrault’s ‘Cinderella’, ‘Puss in Boots’ and ‘Sleeping Beauty’, the Brothers Grimm’s ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, Joseph Jacobs ‘Three Little Pigs’ and Old English tales such as ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and ‘Tom Thumb’.  The stories are presented here in their original translations, alongside beautiful colour images.

This compilation of ‘Nursery Tales’ further comprises a series of dazzling illustrations by Paul Vincent Woodroffe (1875 – 1954). He was a much celebrated book illustrator as well as a prolific stained glass artist who studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in Bloomsbury, London. Part of the true British ‘golden age’, Woodroffe’s artistry still delights both young and old over a century later. Appearing alongside the text, his illustrations further refine and elucidate Steedman’s carefully collated anthology.
